Homemade BBQ Sauce

Homemade BBQ Sauce (paleo, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, nut free, vegetarian)
I know it may seem like a huge amount of effort to make sauce from scratch, but I like knowing exactly what I’m smothering my food in. I can adjust the flavors to my liking, avoid refined sugar, and be confident that it’s safe for my friends with dietary restrictions. And this thick, sweet, and spicy BBQ sauce from #theprettybee is super easy and uses ingredients you probably already have in the cupboard!
⅓ cup (little less than 1 dL) tomato paste
½ cup (1 dL) water
3½ Tbsp honey or maple syrup
1 Tbsp molasses
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
2¼ tsp chili powder
¼ tsp cinnamon
1½ tsp cumin
1 tsp paprika
½ tsp onion powder
¾ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp pepper
1¼ tsp sea salt
¼ tsp dry mustard powder
Pinch cayenne pepper (adjust for desired spiciness)
Add all spices to a bowl and set aside. Add tomato paste, water, sweetener, molasses, and vinegar to a saucepan over low heat. Mix well before adding the spices and stir to combine. Bring to a boil and then return to low heat. Cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Store in a jar in the fridge for up to a week.
